Carl, along with his wife, Judie, came to GSCC in 2005, after being referred to the church by a local waitress. They visited on a Sunday night and have been here ever since. Carl and Judie are both native Charlotteans, having lived there all their lives until he retired from Duke Energy in 2001 after 38 years. He worked in Distribution Operations as a Senior Operations Coordinator. He also served on the Elders Board at the Central Church of God in Charlotte for 15 years.

In 2009 they decided to make Surfside their permanent home with their two furry babies, Buddy and Lizzie. Carl and Judie have a daughter, Lisa who lives in Jacksonville, Florida with her husband Jeff and their children, Travis and Haley. Their son, Todd lives in Charlotte and is a bachelor. Their daughter Kristin lives in Charlotte along with her husband, Brad and their two daughters Kelsey and Tessa. One of Buzz's favorite things is his classic 1966 baby blue Mustang Convertible. He enjoys going to car shows with Todd, participating in the Charlotte Mustang Club and searching for antiques.
